FAQs

  • Is Therapy for Everyone?

Yes! We offer therapy for children, teens, adults, and couples. Our team is trained to support each age group with approaches tailored to their unique needs. We welcome and affirm persons from all backgrounds, identities, and walks of life, and we strive to create an inclusive space where every client can feel seen, respected, and supported.

  • What is Therapy Like?

Therapy can bring up a wide range of emotions! Some sessions may be challenging and feel like hard work, others may feel like a victory. Most importantly, we’re with you every step of the way. The average therapy session lasts about 50-60 minutes, though some may be slightly longer depending on your therapist’s approach or your specific needs.

  • What Should I Expect During My First Therapy Session?

At Mossy Road Counseling, your first session (also known as an intake) is a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you have about the process. It’s a relaxed, judgment-free conversation designed to help you feel comfortable and supported.

  • Can I Use My Insurance to Pay for Therapy?

Yes, we currently accept several major insurance plans including Anthem, Cigna, Aetna, and Sentara, as well as self-pay clients. If you’d like to know if Mossy Road Counseling is in-network with your insurance plan, contact your provider to help verify your benefits and understand what your coverage includes before starting therapy. We’re also happy to provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement if needed (Mossy Road Counseling is not currently in-network with medicaid insurances).

  • Costs and Fees

All intake sessions are billed at a rate of $175. Follow-up sessions are billed at a rate of $150 (this includes note taking and session preparation). If you’re using insurance, your copay or coinsurance amount will depend on your specific plan. For more information regarding other services including letter or report drafting and additional consultations, please contact us or refer to our clinic policy and procedures.

  • Is Teletherapy an Option?

Absolutely! We offer both in-person sessions at our office and secure online therapy for clients who prefer the flexibility of meeting from home.
