After working together in community mental health and later in separate private practices, Lorna Tempest and Philip Mitchell recognized a shared vision for creating a space where clients feel heard, supported and empowered. Mossy Road Counseling was born from that vision - a place where meaningful change can start.

Philip Mitchell is a licensed professional counselor in Richmond, Virginia with over a decade of experience supporting people from all walks of life in overcoming personal difficulty and guiding them through times of transition and change. With an extensive background in helping others overcome depression and anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma, Philip has worked across several populations including adults, adolescents, families, and couples. Over the course of his career he has worked in both community mental health and private practice settings in the tidewater and Richmond metro area.

Whether clients are facing challenges with relationships, career, or their mental health, Philip is committed to creating a space that feels inclusive and safe; a place where real and lasting growth can happen.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Lorna Tempest is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist in Richmond, Virginia. With experience in both private practice and non-profit mental health settings, she brings a thoughtful and informed approach to her work with adults, young people and their families. In addition to working with adults in transition, her clinical focus includes early childhood and infant mental health, maternal mental health, supporting new parents, and family counseling.

Lorna is known for her warm presence and her ability to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard and understood. She is passionate about helping people gain insight into themselves, manage their mental health with greater confidence, and strengthen their connections with family and community. Through compassionate, collaborative care, Lorna partners with clients to foster growth, healing, and deeper resilience.
